The Shreveport Garden Study Club, a member of the Garden Clubs of America, will host its biennial floral design symposium, “Bouquets,” beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, at the East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport, Louisiana. Admission to the event is $75, with limited seating. This year’s speaker will be the very entertaining Bruno Duarte.

The Garden Shop opens at 10 a.m. with the demonstration starting at 11 a.m. Coffee, as well as a Mimosa or Bloody Mary cash bar, will be served and continues with Bruno demonstrating the construction of eight to ten arrangements, ending with a light lunch after his presentation. There will be a raffle of items donated by local merchants, as well as a way to purchase Bruno’s arrangements.

From the mountains to the markets, Bruno grew up surrounded by flowers on the family farm in Madeira. This island paradise off the coast of Morocco is known as the floating garden and is home to rare species of flowers from around the world. This is where Bruno’s passion for orchids and all things floral began.

Much like his Belgian contemporaries, Bruno’s approach to floral design is both sculptural and emotional, mixing organic materials and found objects to create works of art. Her floral studio in Toronto is often mistaken for an art gallery, where weekly showcases are created to showcase her artistry.

His exceptional craftsmanship and innovative design techniques have caught the attention of socialites and A-list celebrities in Canada as well as international celebrities like Rene Zellweger, Patti LaBelle and Elton John.

When Bruno is not in his studio, he can be found designing in front of a live audience. He frequently appears on local and national television shows and gives floral displays at home and garden shows. He is also a regular contributor to magazines where his seasonal decor and wedding work are highlighted.

Now is your chance to see Bruno in action. To obtain tickets, mail your check, payable to Shreveport Garden Study Club, to 924 Oneonta, Shreveport, LA 71106. Please include your name, address, and phone number, as well as the number of tickets requested. For more ticket information, email Judy Chidlow at
