The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance (SPAA) has announced a brunch garden party in April, the Hats Off To Performing Arts Gala. Held in the gardens of the Rutland-Farley Estate overlooking South St. Pete’s Bay, the event will honor SPAA’s inaugural “Arts Lawyer of the Year,” Melissa Seixas, State Chair of Duke Energy Florida .
Seixas originated the idea of creating an overarching arts strategy for the city of St. Petersburg and pitched the idea to Jason Mathis, CEO of the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, which involved SPAA, and the rest belongs to history. The festive garden party takes place on Sunday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets and more information on sponsorship opportunities are available here.
Attendees will meet and mingle outside on the lush estate grounds while enjoying special live entertainment and brunch-inspired appetizers and drinks. The experience begins with live theatrical, movement and musical performances in the beautiful gardens overlooking the bay. Throughout the brunch, guests will enjoy gourmet bites and beverages, as well as opportunities to support SPAA’s work for the arts in the community. The highlight of the event will be Seixas’ honor as Arts Advocate of the Year.
In addition to food, art, and performance, Hats Off To Performing Arts encourages everyone to wear their most creative hats and show off their artistic talents by “wearing a fantastic hat that speaks to your own creative genius.” Special prizes will be awarded to the “most beautiful”, “most creative” and “most humorous” hats. There will also be an auction with unique offers.
SPAA Provides Crucial Support to St. Pete Artists
The overall artistic strategy, conceptualized by Seixas, led to the formation of meetings, surveys and one-on-one discussions with thousands of artistic leaders, artists and art lovers in the city of St. Petersburg. The four principles of the plan are collaboration, targeted communication, leadership and funding, and creating testbeds.
With the genesis of this plan, SPAA elevates the arts by supporting individual artists and galleries, creating a city that reflects a mecca of museums, promoting performing arts venues and performing artists, recognizing the uniqueness of the art districts that make up the city of St. Petersburg and continue to educate and advocate for adequate and sustainable funding for the arts as an economic driver.
The brunch garden party celebration will foster continued support for programs and resources for local artists and arts institutions that drive creativity, community and prosperity. Proceeds from this inaugural event will support:
- Arts education – at school and after school
- Organize workshops and training sessions for artists, non-profits and creative businesses
- Increase impact with our Job Opportunity Board
- Saint Petersburg Second Saturday ArtWalk
- Produce ArtBeat – a unique e-newsletter with opportunities for artists, nonprofits and creative businesses
- SHINE, the annual international mural festival of St. Petersburg
- Capacity building of SPAA to carry out its mission
