The garden center is the best in the UK

The Old Railway Line Garden Center has been awarded the ‘Garden Center of the Year 2021’ award at the National Garden Center Association (GCA) Awards.

The family business has won the title of ‘Best Garden Centre’ nine years in a row for the Wales and West region, but it is only the second time that it has won the national awards of the GCA.

This is a very prestigious award for the independent garden centre, located at Three Cocks between Brecon and Hay-on-Wye.

As well as winning the top prize on February 15, The Old Railway Line also scooped first place for ‘Best Customer Service’ and second place for ‘Christmas 2021’ and ‘Best Garden Products Retailer’ – all fantastic achievements for an independent, rural business.

Usually the awards are a large-scale, in-person event, but due to current restrictions, the GCA has turned it into an online awards presentation.

Mark Cleary, Founder of the Old Railway Line Garden Centre, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded as the UK’s Best Garden Center for 2021. Facing garden centers across the country, we were happy to have reached the top. 10. So being crowned first is a real honor, we’re thrilled.

“The team has been incredible through all the challenges we have faced over the past two years. Their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed and it’s amazing to be recognized for it.

“We strive to provide the best shopping experience for our customers. The greatest reward for us is seeing them enjoy their time here at our center. We could not have achieved this without the loyalty of our customers who supported us during these trying times.

“I’m extremely proud of the team’s accomplishments at this year’s GCA National Awards and can’t wait to see how we grow from here.”

The family business has won the title of “best garden centre” nine years in a row.

The GCA represents over 200 garden centers nationwide. Through information sharing and its inspection program, GCA helps its members achieve high standards of customer service, quality and plant reliability. Prizes are awarded by the results of annual inspections, which take place at all GCA garden centres. Garden centers are not told in advance when their inspection will take place and they do not have the option of refusing the inspector.

The award-winning, independent, family-run garden center was established in 1990 by founders, Mark and Christina Cleary. It provides its customers with quality plants, gardening products, indoor and outdoor living goods, pet care products, gift items and furniture. The old railway line is also home to a farm shop stocking produce from over 60 local and Welsh suppliers and a 150-seat restaurant serving delicious home-cooked food.
