the Jimmy Carter Plant Materials Center is part of a national network of 25 centers dedicated to providing plant solutions, as well as developing and transferring plant science technology to solve conservation problems. Located in Americus, Georgia, it is one of four centers serving the southeastern and tropical region of the states of Alabama, Florida, the Carolinas and Tennessee.

The main objective of this center is to improve soil health. The Center finds plant solutions for the diverse landscape of the Southeast and has developed more than 18 improved conservation plants, including grasses, herbaceous plants and shrub germplasm.

the Jimmy Carter Plant Materials Center also develops technologies to improve landscapes, such as farmland, pasture, wildlife areas, restoration areas, coastal dunes and urban settings.
